Marta Mendes

Marta Mendes is a Beirut-based researcher who focuses on transitional justice and reconciliation in Yemen. Her publications have focused on the evolution of transitional justice in Yemen from political afterthought towards a consolidated field of practice that acknowledges victims as custodians of at-risk narratives such as those that address enforced disappearances in Yemen as well as specific victim groups like women and racial minorities. Marta has worked has an independent consultant for the Open Society Foundations, International Center for transitional Justice, Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies and Global Survivors Fund amongst others. Marta is equally interested in critique about literary and art works from Yemen. Her writings have appeared in the Jemen report and in the Markaz Review and she is also a contributing editor for the Yemen Arts Base Magazine.
